Marseille, February 12, 2025 – In a historic move that strengthens diplomatic and cultural ties between India and France, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and President of the French Republic, M. Emmanuel Macron, jointly inaugurated the Consulate General of India in Marseille. The event, attended by dignitaries, and Indian diaspora members, marks a significant step in facilitating Indo-French collaborations in education, trade, and cultural exchange.

The decision to establish a consulate in Marseille, France’s second-most populous city, was announced during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France in July 2023. The new consulate will have jurisdiction over four French regions—Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, Corsica, Occitanie, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes—areas known for their economic, industrial, and educational significance.
