Our commitment to inclusive educational opportunities was exemplified in the 12th edition of the International French Spell Bee, where a special needs student participated, showcasing extraordinary determination and resilience. A Commitment to Inclusivity in the Prelims Round

The first step of the competition, the prelims round, is an audio-based test where students listen to 20 words and write their correct spellings on the answer sheets provided by Le Frehindi. As a special child, this student faced difficulty in writing at the same speed as others. Understanding her unique needs, we took measures to ensure she could perform at her best:

• Extra Time: She was provided additional time to write her answers, ensuring she could complete the round without undue pressure.
• Customized Answer Sheets: Instead of using ruled sheets like other participants, she was given a plain white paper, making it easier for her to focus and write without any distractions.

Through these small but significant adaptations, we ensured that she had a fair chance to compete while maintaining the integrity of the competition.

Overcoming Challenges in the Secondary Round

The secondary round is a live, on-stage competition that demands confidence and quick thinking. This remarkable student excelled in pronouncing all the words correctly and demonstrated exceptional linguistic skills. While our team was present on stage to support her if needed, she performed impressively with minimal assistance.

However, during the image-based segment of the round, a challenge arose—she was unable to see the image displayed on the large screen clearly. To ensure she could participate without disadvantage, we provided her with an alternative solution:

• She clicked a picture of the image displayed on the screen using her tablet.
• She then zoomed in on the image on her tablet, allowing her to examine it closely and answer correctly.
• Additional time was granted to accommodate this process, ensuring fairness in the competition.
