Day 3 of Le Frehindi’s Volunteer Training: Ready to Represent India at the Paris Olympics

Delving into Indian Handicrafts at the Swadesh Pavilion

As the Paris Olympics approach, Le Frehindi’s volunteers are gearing up to take charge of the Swadesh Pavilion at the India House initiative. Backed by Reliance Foundation, this initiative aims to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage through its diverse and vibrant handicrafts. On 26th July, Day 3 of the volunteer training focused on developing customer engagement skills, ensuring our volunteers are well-prepared to introduce visitors to the exquisite world of Indian arts and crafts.

The Journey of Indian Artisans

The journey of Indian handicrafts to Paris begins in the heartlands of India, where artisans have honed their crafts over generations. These skilled craftsmen, specializing in art forms such as Banarasi weaving, Pattachitra, Sozni embroidery, and Blue Pottery, were meticulously selected through a collaborative effort spearheaded by Reliance Foundation.

Swadesh: A Celebration of Heritage

Swadesh embodies the spirit of Make in India, offering a curated collection of products ranging from apparel and home textiles to jewelry and wellness products. Each item in the Swadesh collection is a testament to the skill and dedication of Indian artisans, crafted using traditional methods and local materials. This initiative not only helps in preserving these crafts but also ensures that they remain economically viable for future generations.

Empowering Youth Through Cultural Exchange

Le Frehindi is dedicated to empowering youth, and our collaboration with the India House initiative at the Paris Olympics is a golden opportunity to showcase this commitment. During the training, volunteers learned valuable skills in customer engagement and cultural representation, preparing them to be perfect cultural ambassadors at the Swadesh Pavilion. This experience is expected to benefit them in their future career paths, enhancing their interpersonal and professional skills.

Social Volunteering Project in the Himalayas

Le Frehindi continues to offer youth programs that facilitate cultural exchange. We are excited to announce a new social volunteering project in the Uttarakhand region of India, starting in January 2025. This initiative will enable European high school students to volunteer in the Himalayas, focusing on several key areas:

  • Environmental Sustainability: Students will participate in reforestation projects, wildlife conservation efforts, and initiatives aimed at promoting eco-friendly practices among local communities.
  • Digital Skills Enhancement: The program will provide training to local youth in essential digital skills, helping bridge the digital divide and enhance employment opportunities.
  • Educational Resources Improvement: Through the Happy Library Initiative, volunteers will help set up libraries, provide educational materials, and engage in teaching activities to improve literacy rates and educational outcomes.
  • Supporting Local Craftsmen: Students will learn about traditional Indian crafts, such as handloom weaving and pottery, and help promote these crafts globally. This includes assisting artisans in creating digital portfolios and marketing their products online.

Participants will gain invaluable insights into the traditional Indian way of life, learning about the history and processes involved in making traditional crafts. This experience will enhance their teaching, leadership, and cross-cultural communication skills, fostering empathy and adaptability.
