Le Frehindi’s Contribution to Promoting Indian Arts and Crafts

Le Frehindi is proud to contribute in a small yet significant way to the efforts of promoting the arts and crafts of India by assisting Swadesh, a Reliance venture, in opening stores in Europe and the US. Swadesh is dedicated to showcasing Indian handicrafts, ranging from the exquisite Kashmiri carpets to the elegant Banarasi sarees, from the intricate Tribal Block printing art to a variety of Indian souvenirs. The India House at the Olympics FANS Zone in Parc de Villette will serve as a vibrant platform to promote and preserve India’s rich cultural heritage while providing a sustainable livelihood for artisans.

The India House at the Olympics FANS Zone

The India House at the Olympics FANS Zone is not just a marketplace but a cultural hub that celebrates the diversity and craftsmanship of India. By displaying these unique handicrafts, we aim to bring the essence of Indian culture to an international audience, fostering appreciation and demand for these traditional arts. This initiative will also play a crucial role in sustaining the artisans’ livelihoods, ensuring that these age-old crafts continue to thrive in a modern world.

Recently, our CEO, Mr. Haru Mehra, had a productive meeting with the Business Head of Swadesh in Paris. They discussed the arrangements and strategies for promoting handicrafts at Parc de Villette, which will host the India House for the first time during the Olympics. This collaboration marks a significant step towards India’s aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics, showcasing our cultural richness and organizational prowess.

The inclusion of Indian handicrafts at such a prestigious international event highlights our commitment to preserving and promoting our cultural heritage. It also underscores the potential of these crafts to captivate a global audience and create economic opportunities for artisans.

New Social Volunteering Project in the Himalayas

In addition to our efforts in Europe, Le Frehindi is excited to announce a new social volunteering project in the Uttarakhand region of India, starting in January 2025. This initiative will enable European high school students to volunteer in the Himalayas. This program focuses on promoting environmental sustainability in the Himalayas, enhancing digital skills among local youth, improving educational resources through the Happy Library Initiative, and supporting local craftsmen globally. In the state of Uttarakhand, European students are likely to get a taste of the authentic and traditional Indian way of life. They will have the opportunity to learn about the history and processes involved in making traditional Indian crafts.

Benefits for participants

For European students, this project offers a unique chance to immerse in Indian culture, enhancing their teaching, leadership, and cross-cultural communication skills. They will develop empathy and adaptability, fostering a sense of social responsibility and global awareness. For Indian youth and artisans, the project provides valuable educational resources and digital literacy skills, broadening their global perspectives. Additionally, local craftsmen will gain international exposure and market access, increasing their income and sustainability.

This project seeks support from EU institutions to ensure its success, benefiting both European students and the local Indian community.
