“Where Words Create Champions!”

The 12th edition of the International French Spell Bee has successfully concluded, marking yet another milestone in our journey of promoting linguistic excellence. Le Frehindi is incredibly grateful for another successful year, where young linguists from across the country showcased their talent, dedication, and passion for the French language.

A Journey Through the Competition

Before reaching the final stage, students underwent rigorous testing in two crucial rounds:

The Prelims Round – The First Step to Success

This round served as the gateway to the finals, where participants listened to an audio containing 20 French words. They had to accurately spell them on answer sheets provided by Le Frehindi. Special accommodations were made to ensure fairness and inclusivity for all students.

The Secondary Round – The Battle Gets Intense

This on-stage round tested the students’ ability to think on their feet and spell under pressure. It consisted of multiple question formats:

• Word Spell: Students listened to a word pronounced by the pronouncer and spelled it correctly.
• Description-Based Question: A word description was given, and students had to identify and spell it.
• Image-Based Question: In this round, an image will be shown on the screen, and students must identify the object, concept, or word associated with the image. Once identified, they need to pronounce & spell the word correctly.
• Speed based Round: This round is time & speed based, where students must spell as many words as possible within a set time limit or spell the given number of words in minimum time. Correctly spelled words will earn points, while skipped or incorrectly spelled words will not be reconsidered. Speed and accuracy are crucial for success in this round. 
• Jumbled Words: Jumbled Words: Students will face a challenge where some scattered alphabets are displayed on the screen along with a hint at the center. Using the hint, students must quickly rearrange all/some of the letters to form the correct word and pronounce & spell it accurately. 
• Error Identification: In this round, a short text containing intentional spelling errors will be displayed. Students are required to carefully review the text, identify the misspelled words, and spell the word correctly.
  

After these rounds, only the top three competitors emerged victorious, earning their place in the final round!

The Final Round – The Ultimate Showdown

By this stage, the real competition began! The three finalists battled for the top position, knowing that their performance would determine their final ranking and the exciting prizes awaiting them. This year, apart from the above question types, the final round introduced an all-new challenge—the Buzzer Round!

Introducing the Buzzer Round – A New Thrill!

To add an element of excitement and test students’ quick thinking, a crossword puzzle challenge was introduced. Participants had to solve the puzzle and press the buzzer to answer first. In this round, a blank crossword grid will be displayed on the screen, and students will receive hints such as images, definitions, synonyms, or categories to identify the words. The first student to press the buzzer gets the opportunity to guess & spell the word. This challenge is for selecting the 3 positions & the position of the student will be based on the number of correct answers. The student with maximum number of correct answers will be given the First position, the student with minimum number of correct answers will be given the 3rd position & the 3rd student will get the 2nd position. In case of a tie, tie breaker will take place between the two students after allotting position to the third student. Their ability to think swiftly and accurately played a crucial role in determining their final standing.

The event saw participation from:

• 230 students representing 55 schools, including 2 international schools from Doha and Kuwait.
• Participants were divided into the following categories:
  • Avancé Level: 74 students
  • Intermédiaire Level: 89 students
  • Débutant Level: 67 students
    

A Test of Resilience and Excellence

The IFSB 2025 proved to be a true test of resilience and excellence. Each participant demonstrated remarkable dedication, navigating linguistic hurdles and emerging as a beacon of inspiration for their peers. The event highlighted not only the importance of learning French but also the values of perseverance and teamwork.

Victory & Exciting Prizes!

At the end of this high-stakes battle, the top three students were awarded prestigious prizes:

🥇 First Prize: An all-expenses-paid Scholastic Exchange Tour to France.
🥈 Second Prize: A Fully-Funded Global Citizen Camp at Auroville, Puducherry.
🥉 Third Prize: A Fully-Covered Adventure Camp to Frehindi Village, Uttarakhand.

The live finals, held on January 18, 2025, were nothing short of spectacular. The event was hosted by Mr. Haru Mehra, the CEO and founder of Le Frehindi, whose unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to the event were palpable throughout the day. Under his leadership, the French Spell Bee has grown into a global phenomenon, uniting students from diverse backgrounds in the spirit of friendly competition.
