ALHI - Alps–Himalayas Innovation Initiative
Transforming Himalayan Youth into AI-Powered Global Creators
The Alps–Himalayas Innovation (ALHI) Project is a youth empowerment initiative founded by Haru Mehra that aims to transform Himalayan villages — beginning with Taragtal — into AI-powered learning and innovation hubs where rural youth gain digital skills, global exposure, and sustainable earning opportunities without leaving their communities. The Himalayan youth face several structural challenges such as underdeveloped sustainable tourism systems and limited access to advanced digital skills which leads to migration to cities due to lack of income options. Working on a Global Bridge Model, ALHI builds collaboration between Himalayan communities and European partners through digital storytelling, exchange programs, and volunteer engagement.
Despite immense creativity and cultural richness, villages remain disconnected from global digital economies. Our vision is to create a network of AI-first digital learning villages across the Himalayas, enabling youth to become AI-assisted community innovators. AI becomes a learning partner, giving rural youth access to world-class knowledge. Village as a Living Classroom where nature, culture, and homestays become practical training grounds. It is a hybrid model that combines an AI Teacher, a Local Facilitator with Real Community Projects. Youth learn 2–3 hours daily through practical, project-based methods.
Over the next decade, ALHI aims to enable youth to earn globally from Himalayan villages and strengthen local economies to reduce distress migration. This preserves culture while embracing AI and technology. ALHI becomes a replicable model for other mountain communities.
Features:
- A well-rounded learning experience.
- Fosters cultural sensitivity and global awareness.
- Enhance sportsmanship, creativity, communication, and teamwork.
- Learn life skills like problem-solving, time management, and leadership.
- Increased self-confidence and independence in young individuals.
- Helps students become more adaptable and open-minded.

TARAGTAL
The Alps–Himalayas Innovation (ALHI) Project, founded by Haru Mehra, is a long-term initiative designed to transform Himalayan villages into AI-powered learning and livelihood hubs.
Starting with Taragtal as a pilot “Living Lab,” ALHI enables rural youth to access global opportunities, digital skills, and sustainable income — without leaving their communities. The Taragtal pilot village becomes a replicable digital learning model. The initiative then expands to other Himalayan regions, creating a network of AI-enabled youth hubs across mountain communities.
Technology should strengthen villages — not replace them. ALHI empowers youth to stay rooted in their culture while participating in the global digital economy. Taragtal serves as a working prototype where a Community Library will support learning culture, establishment of an AI Skill Development Lab will enable hands-on digital practice to expand global awareness. Homestays thus become hospitality learning environments and the youth create real digital content for real audiences. The village becomes a classroom. Technology becomes an enabler — not a disruptor. ALHI thus introduces a 12-week AI-first residency program that blends artificial intelligence based content creation with English communication training and education for sustainable tourism entrepreneurship thanks to an Indo-European collaboration.
In our 12-Week Residency Curriculum the participants learn:
- AI & Digital Foundations
- English Communication via AI
- Smartphone Videography & Storytelling
- Editing & Social Media Reels
- AI Scriptwriting & Multilingual Video Creation
- Photography & Village Documentation
- Basic Python & Tourism Data Analysis
- AI Translation (English–Hindi–French workflows)
- Sustainable Tourism & Homestay Marketing
- Freelancing Platforms & Online Income
- Industry Projects & International Collaboration
- Final Showcase & Certification
After the residency, participants can:
- Create professional tourism and cultural content
- Manage social media for homestays and local businesses
- Produce multilingual digital content
- Use AI tools independently
- Communicate confidently in English
- Work on freelance platforms
- Support sustainable tourism in their village
Taragtal is not a one-time project. It is a prototype for a new rural digital ecosystem. ALHI is not a charity. It is institution-building. It is about systems that outlast individuals. It is about youth who earn with dignity. It is about villages that participate in the global economy on their own terms.
