Successful Completion of the First Consular Camp in Lyon: A Community Milestone

The Indian Embassy in Paris, in collaboration with L’Association Frehindi, successfully conducted its first-ever Consular Camp in Lyon, bringing essential consular services directly to the Indian community in the region. The event, spearheaded by Mr. Haru Mehra, CEO and Founder of Le Frehindi, was a remarkable success, with over 70 individuals availing services that would have otherwise required a costly and time-consuming trip to Paris. 🇮🇳 A Community-Centric Initiative This pioneering initiative saved attendees anywhere from €300 to €500, which they would have otherwise spent on travel, accommodation, and other expenses associated with visiting the Indian Consulate in Paris. Normally, Indian nationals residing in and around Lyon have to undertake a 500 km journey to the capital, often requiring multiple visits to complete their paperwork. With the Consular Camp, these essential services were made available locally and free of cost, making a significant impact on the lives of those who attended. The Consular Camp was held on 15th March 2025 at Novotel Centre Confluence Bord de Saône from 10 AM to 5 PM, providing a full day of essential consular services to the Indian community in Lyon. ✅ Comprehensive Consular Services Provided The camp offered a wide range of consular services, including: ✔️ Attestation of Documents✔️ Police Clearance Certificates (PCC)✔️ Passport Renewal✔️ Birth Registration✔️ OCI Card Application, Renewal, and Transfer✔️ Name Change Attestation✔️ Adoption Deed Attestation✔️ Indian Driving License Verification✔️ Emergency Exit Permit✔️ Spouse Visa Documentation Attestation✔️ Indian Citizenship Renunciation Certificate✔️ Power of Attorney (PoA) Attestation✔️ NRI Certificate Issuance✔️ Life Certificate (for Pensioners) and other regular consular services… This initiative made it easier and more efficient for the Indian diaspora in Lyon to access these critical services, strengthening their connection with the embassy and ensuring their administrative needs were met smoothly. 👥 Well-Organized Volunteer Support A team of over 15 volunteers, trained online by embassy officials before the event, played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of the camp. The day began at 9:00 AM, with a briefing session led by embassy officials and Mr. Mehra. Volunteers were then divided into specialized teams to manage different aspects of the camp: With a well-structured system in place, the camp efficiently managed the morning rush, ensuring that people received assistance quickly and effectively. 🇮🇳 Embassy Officials Leading the Effort The camp was led by senior embassy officials, including: The Paris Consulate team, led by Mr. Jadhav, primarily managed passport-related services, while the Marseille Consulate team handled other consular matters. Their dedication and commitment ensured that even complex cases were resolved efficiently. 🤝 A Day of Hard Work & Community Spirit The event saw an initial surge of visitors, with peak traffic before 1:00 PM. Recognizing the volunteers’ hard work, L’Association Frehindi arranged lunch at McDonald’s for them, while embassy officials, along with Mr. Mehra, enjoyed a working lunch at a nearby Vietnamese restaurant. This provided an excellent opportunity to discuss future consular camps and ways to further support the growing Indian community in Lyon. The afternoon session was relatively more relaxed, allowing embassy officials to handle complicated cases with personalized attention. Mr. Karjee took the lead in resolving these issues, ensuring that every individual received proper guidance. ⏳ Extending Service Hours for Maximum Impact As the camp drew to a close at 5:00 PM, a final rush of attendees prompted the embassy to extend operations by 15 minutes, ensuring that everyone was served. This gesture was greatly appreciated by the attendees, reflecting the embassy’s commitment to community service. 📸 A Unifying Experience for the Indian Community After the event, a group photo was taken with the embassy officials and volunteers, marking the successful conclusion of the first Consular Camp in Lyon. In his closing remarks, Mr. Karjee emphasized the importance of unity within the Indian diaspora, stating: “No matter which region of India we come from, when we represent our country, we are one. We must continue to work together and support initiatives like these that benefit our entire community.” With this inspiring message, the camp concluded on a high note, with the Paris Consulate team catching a late-night train back to Paris, while the Marseille Consulate team returned home with a sense of accomplishment. 📍 A Model for Future Consular Camps The success of this event has set a precedent for future Consular Camps across various French cities. L’Association Frehindi, under the leadership of Mr. Haru Mehra, has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the Indian Embassy and the community, ensuring that essential services are accessible and affordable. With the growing Indian diaspora in Lyon and surrounding regions, initiatives like this not only ease bureaucratic burdens but also strengthen the bond between the embassy and the Indian community. 🙏 A Big Thank You! A heartfelt thank you to the Indian Embassy in Paris, the Marseille Consulate, L’Association Frehindi, and all the dedicated volunteers who made this camp a resounding success. Your efforts and commitment have positively impacted the Indian community in Lyon, and we look forward to more such collaborations in the future! 🇮🇳 Jai Hind! 🇮🇳 📩 Get in Touch: 🌐 Website: www.lefrehindi.com📧 Email: team@lefrehindi.com📞 India Contact (Shilpa): +91 9811237050📞 France Contact (Vaishali): +33 6 27 92 43 98 (WhatsApp messages are welcome) Le Frehindi is proud to have played a key role in mobilizing the community and facilitating this momentous occasion! From Rigidity to Harmony: How Religions Evolve Through Cultural Exchange

At Frehindi, engaging with youth from diverse backgrounds often sparks questions about extremism and labeling communities as non-peaceful. Religions, like individuals, evolve over time, with younger ones experiencing growing pains. History shows that cultural integration, as seen in Sufism and Urdu’s emergence, fosters harmony. By promoting cross-cultural programs, Frehindi helps youth embrace diversity and contribute to this ongoing evolution toward unity and understanding.

How Le Frehindi’s Cultural Exchange Program Creates Lifelong Memories: Experience Of A Student

About Myself I am Parnika Pandey, I’m a college student majoring in French. I had attended school at Delhi Public School Greater Faridabad, where in class 12th, I got the chance to live an unforgettable experience of becoming a part of the Indo-French Student Exchange Program, a cultural learning experience offered by Le Frehindi. It was a week-long program and a twenty-student delegation of students from classes 8th to 12th. The visits were organized not only for the cities of France, i.e. – Lille, Paris and Roubaix, but also for the neighboring country- Belgium. Every Moment Rich In Culture! The first day was street familiarization where we had a walking tour of Roubaix. We met with a French English teacher- Ms. Mathilde who took us to old Lyon to share insights about its rich history and culture, also, it is the birthplace of the first president of France! We also explored local shops and delicacies. The following day, we went to Lycée Saint-Rémi, Roubaix to meet and interact with the French students, where we gave them an Indian dance and music performance and I presented a PPT about our Indian school and Indian Culture. I was so content to see so many shocked French faces, because my accent was just like theirs! It was not just France that was covered in this exchange program, but also Belgium! We visited the Grand Palace in Brussels along with our French peers and played a game of treasure hunting. Next, we visited the European Union parliament and had a guided tour with the EU spokesperson. It was a very informative session, which I felt to be especially important for students of our age. In Paris, we visited all the key landmarks that I had previously seen only in books and online- The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, l’Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysées, the oldest bridge in Paris- Pont Neuf. The last day was probably the most favorite of all students- which was a visit to Disneyland. Two cultures, one sentiment When we first visited the French high school- Lycée Saint-Rémi, Roubaix and met the French students there, I was delighted to see that they were very welcoming and made all of the Indian students feel comfortable. Although conversations were limited because there were only few students who could efficiently speak in English and French, this language distinction posed little barrier because we found one or the other way to understand each other. These simple conversations soon blossomed into wholesome friendships; I still talk to my French friends- Elliot and Sao from time to time. I had so much fun in the saree-draping activity and rangoli making. All the bus journeys were always accompanied by a lot of Indian and French music, with each one of us teaching the other to learn the classic Bollywood dance steps and pronouncing Hindi and French words of songs. I remember when we had to leave for Paris, some of us cried because we could no longer see our French friends. Excellent coordination by Le Frehindi Team The CEO of Le Frehindi- Mr. Haru Mehra orchestrated the entire program and guided the students along with Ms. Shilpa Jain. There was a great amount of independence that was granted to the school students despite being in a foreign land. We were allowed to explore by ourselves different places. The only requirements were that we stay together with our friend group at all times and carry our Le Frehindi ID cards anywhere we go. So, I remember my friends and I would go and try out dishes of different restaurants and we would explore different streets, and malls, all by ourselves. There was a time limit, after which we all had to meet at a common point. Needless to say, the program was very well-coordinated, and we were always in contact with Ms. Shilpa Jain and Mr. Mehra who kept us updated with our schedule and if any change were to take place, it was notified to us timely. Mr. Mehra walked with us and led us to all the destinations which we always reached on time. Ms. Shilpa was always patient with the students and approached situations with calm. Impact: Learning and Cultural Awareness Since my passion has always been in the French language, I was looking forward to this exchange program more than the others in my group. For me, there was little importance to clicking pictures every moment of the journey or enjoying Disneyland rides, though surely these were nothing less than memorable, but what I was looking forward to more was the learning component of how spoken French sounds like and testing my own skills of comprehension that I’ve been studying in school since so many years and by myself. Although I was better at conversing in French than the other Indian students, the fact that it was still difficult for me to follow spoken French was a shock to me and felt really unfamiliar. I was also keen to understand how payment, travel and transportation works in France, how bus cards look like, how street signs look like, how everyday interactions with shopkeepers, and cashiers look like in a completely different cultural context, and also how humor and jokes vary from one country to the other. Practical knowledge of this kind isn’t imparted to school students when they are studying French in school. The entire focus is on grammar and formal conversations. So I strongly believe that exchange programs like these are a great initiative and should be organized more often. For more details, kindly visit our website at www.lefrehindi.com.
