In a landmark move to strengthen Indo-French relations and cater to the growing Indian diaspora in southern France, a new Indian Consulate is set to open in Marseille. The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, will personally inaugurate the consulate on 12th February 2025, marking a historic moment for the Indian community and the region at large.

Addressing the Needs of the Indian Diaspora
The opening of the consulate in Marseille is a significant step in addressing the long-standing concerns of Indian expatriates living in Marseille, Toulouse, and the Rhône-Alpes region. Until now, the only Indian consulate in France has been located 500-600 kilometers away, in Paris, making it challenging for residents in these areas to access essential consular services. The new consulate aims to provide more accessible and efficient support to the vibrant and growing Indian community in southern France.
Why Marseille?
Marseille, a bustling port city, is a hub for Indo-French trade and commerce. Its strategic location as a gateway to Europe and its historical ties to maritime trade make it an ideal choice for establishing the new consulate. This move not only facilitates smoother operations for businesses but also underscores India’s commitment to fostering economic and cultural ties with France.
